Bobby Brooks, economics senior and 2017-2018 student body president (SBP), hopes to bring about a new way of life for current students — upgrading the Aggie experience.

Before being elected as SBP, Brooks served as the executive vice president of diversity in the MSC and as an officer for Freshmen Leadership International, or FLI.

Taking the role of SBP, Brooks has three concrete plans in hopes of making the student experience a better one: Academics, student services and inclusive diversity.

The first piece of the three-part plan includes highlighting the already successful field of academics, making Texas A&M a well-known and respected school not just in Texas, but also across the country.

“I want Texas A&M to be the name in Texas,” Brooks said. “We already have that happening, but I want people to be aware of that also because right now Texas A&M is doing a really good job of getting all sorts of students from all backgrounds and making leaders out of them that do succeed in the workplace.”

The steps Brooks plans to take in order to make this goal a reality will start in the way A&M markets the Aggie brand.

“So right now it’s just making sure that [our academics] can be marketed better and get more people to buy into the university so that we can turn the wheel a little bit there,” Brooks said.

Another facet to his goals is a streamlined upgrade to Student Services. Brooks said while A&M has a lot to offer current students, both the packaging and accessibility need to be a priority.

“Another thing [I will be] working on is Student Services. These are things that are going to affect students in their everyday life,” Brooks said. “We can do a heck of a lot of a better job of having the most efficient and user friendly services on campus. I think we do have a lot good things coming our way in terms of upgrading the student experience.”

The third structure to Brooks’ plan is what he has been preparing for over the last year working in the MSC.

“Finally it’s about that diversity and inclusion piece,” Brooks said. “Making sure that every student who comes here feels welcome, and that is a 100 percent number. I want every single student to feel that they are welcome here and their contributions are welcome.”

Brooks said his plans draw their source from the idea that the Aggie epxerience should be great for every student who walks on campus.

“It was getting back to the students and that is something that my experience has been based around from the very beginning. To me, this was fulfilling that dream I had been building since my freshman year,” Brooks said. “I saw that I wanted to do something on a big scale in this world, and I want to help people, and I want to make this world a better place, so I had to start somewhere.”
